Whatever your political affiliation, sometime next year there will be a general election. And we all know that in the build up to an election the government will be giving away a few sweeteners, encouraging interest rates to drop, maybe a few tax reductions and will probably do something to inject a bit of enthusiasm in the property market.
I don’t know whether this will get them any votes. But right now while the market is quiet with high interest rates and most vendors looking to take any half reasonable offers, then this is the time to buy before interest rates start to drop and before the government provides any incentives for the property market which could lead to a levelling of the market and possibly an increase in prices.
And one of the most important aspects of buying any property at the moment is the condition of the property and how much it is going to cost to repair and upgrade. As we all know, builders costs, both in the way of labour and materials, have gone through the roof and just getting a bit of replastering, damp proofing and a bit of electrical work undertaken can cost many thousands.
