Rain or Shine, the Somerset County entertained!

- Wed 20 Sep 2023

The Somerset County Show managed to defy (most) of the unpredictable weather this past weekend and turned out as great success. Despite the unfortunate cancellation of Sunday afternoons festivities due to the severe weather forecast. While the rain may have fallen on the Saturday at times, the event's vibrant spirit, diverse attractions, and unwavering community support shone through.

Ferret racing brought bursts of laughter and cheers from the crowd, and the Alpaca Village provided a unique and endearing experience for all ages. Not forgetting the fun dog shows and awe-inspiring falconry displays.

Aside from the fantastic attractions, the food trucks dotted throughout the venue ensured that no one went hungry. From traditional Somerset cider and cheese to global cuisine, there was a feast for every palate!

To top it all off, live bands took to the stage throughout the day, providing a musical backdrop that added to the festive atmosphere.

Sunday afternoon’s events were unfortunately cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions, although they did manage to carry on for a few hours before the decision was made to bring events to a close early. While this was undoubtedly disappointing for both organisers and attendees, the decision was made with safety in mind, ensuring that the show could continue in the coming years.

Josh Shirley, from Bradleys Estate Agents Taunton office commented “What a superb event, which is always a shame to end on such a damp note. It takes so much planning and unfortunately the weather had the final say. We did, however, see thousands of smiling faces on the Saturday and Sunday morning and as sponsors we are proud to see such great support for the show, which is still relatively new by Conty Show standards. We very much look forward to next year, which we hope will remain dry!”

Somerset County Show commented on their social pages that they had once again succeeded in its mission to celebrate the beauty of the countryside, the spirit of community, and the joy of coming together, rain or shine. Here's to next year's show, which promises to be even more spectacular!
