Movember is a leading charity changing the face of men’s mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Globally, on average 1 man dies of suicide every minute of every day, 1 in 8 UK men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young UK men.
With these hard hitting statistics Movember are working tirelessly to raise awareness and open the gateways to have more conversations with their aim by 2030 to reduce the number of male suicides by 25% and halve the number of men dying from prostate and testicular cancer by working towards a world where men take action to be mentally well, and are supported by those around them.
Bradleys Estate Agents are proud of our team members taking part in Movember, this week we bring you an update from Josh Shirley, Senior Negotiator in our Taunton Branch with his comments “I have always taken part by growing a Mo for Movember for the last 8 years at least. For me this charity really hits home as not only is it about prostate and testicular cancer but it is now helping men with mental illness and suicide prevention. Cancer has rocked many lives and I sadly lost my best friend, Uncle and Grandad to it. My uncle who my whole family were really close to sadly lost his battle to prostate cancer some years ago, he was a great role model and he encouraged me to join the Army as he had a military background himself with the Royal Navy. I am a very outgoing person but always get minor anxiety when I first shave all my facial hair off as I fear what people think. For me it is easier to get over this as I know the brave and enjoyable work I am doing is helping men with much more severe illness’ than anything I have faced. For anyone who thinks they can’t grow a Mo, there are many different things you can do to help these men. You don’t look stupid with a Mo, in fact you look like a legend as it takes more of a man to help”.
