Charity Golf Day in aid of Royal Devon and Exeter Oncology Dept a great success despite the weather!

Exeter Golf and Country Golf Captain Geoff Fidler with the full backing and support of his Ladies Golf Captain Vicki Rogers decided at the commencement of their years captaincy to raise funds at various events for the Royal Devon and Exeter Oncology Department.

The idea was all about giving something back to our superb National Health Service, particularly as Geoff had recently needed the services of the Oncology Department after a reoccurrence of cancer.

Geoff being an ex-Okehampton Golf Member approached the club earlier in the year to arrange an away fun day of golf, as he had used the facility some years earlier when he was raising funds for a similar project for the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

A total of 104 hardy players arrived at Okehampton to be greeted by the familiar Dartmoor weather drizzle with occasional heavy showers.

The course was in fantastic condition. Golf commenced at 0840 with 10-minute gaps with the last team teeing off at 1300. Although as stated the weather was gloomy everyone remained in competitive and chirpy spirits and some fabulous golf was played in difficult conditions. The winning team score of 86points for a four ball two to count contest was indeed a great result on the day, closely followed by 84points and several 82points being recorded for the minor places.

Bradleys Exmouth Manager, Lisa Findel-Hawkins, who played in the event commented “What a superb day that was, despite the weather everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. Some of the golf was really impressive considering the weather but most importantly the event raised some really important money for a great cause. We’re delighted to have helped contribute by sponsoring a hole today but more so, supporting our friend Geoff.”

Geoff added “In total a magnificent sum of £3167-50 was raised on the day.

We are totally blown away by the support everyone has shown THANK YOU.”
