John O'Groats to Lands End

A brave and determined young couple from Plymouth have decided to take a new challenge to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Kathy Cook, who works in Bradleys Plympton Office explains below what has driven her and her husband to take on the challenge of cycling from John O’Groats to Lands End

Our main objective is to cycle one end of the country to the other unsupported within a limited time frame. Some people think that we are a little barmy! To be completely honest we can’t wait!

A little bit about us…

We are a freshly married couple of 3 years and have always enjoyed an adventure! Skiing, snowboarding, hiking, walking, running, traveling and now…cycling! Luke’s daily grind, a senior consultant in information governance and data privacy (a mouth full right!) and I spend my days selling clients their dream homes! – Or at least trying to. We have actually been together 10 years after meeting on a night out while at university. Nothing was ever the same again!

How it all started…

Lockdown was a time to think and reflect on what we enjoy doing and what we want out of life. We needed to focus on a new adventure! A new adventure that would bring us even closer together and one that we have now started to share with friends…

What’s it for…

Ultimately the trip is for us! Something to look forward to. Something to complete. Something to share…however as we are doing this we might as well make a penny or two for a great charity. Teenage Cancer Trust. This charity has been part of our lives now for nearly 10 years after they superbly looked after my older brother when he was diagnosed with cancer. They supported him and my family during the most difficult few years of our lives. Now 6 years on since my brother passed we are looking to once again raise some money to keep their fantastic work and wards recognised and funded.

What you can do to support…

We have set up two fund raising sites. One is our Just Giving page to raise as much money as possible from now until we finish the ride for Teenage Cancer Trust. The second site is our coffee stop fund. From first planning the trip the wonderful COVID has caused all prices to sky rocket. We are doing this trip from our own pockets (including getting all sorts of bits of kit I never knew even existed!) if you would like to support ‘US’ we have set up a separate GoFundMe page. Luke tells me every little coffee stop is going to play a huge part to our ability to accomplish this trip!
