March Could Be the Moment to List Your Home for Sale

Earlier this year we shared research highlighting that nearly seven in ten homes listed for sale during February and March go on to find a buyer, notably above the average outside of these months. That insight came from analysis by property website Rightmove, which reviewed millions of property listings over more than a decade. The data showed that February and March consistently offer some of the best chances of a successful sale.

Why spring is such a strong time to sell

Spring is traditionally the busiest period in the housing market. According to Rightmove’s analysis, March sees the highest number of new listings, the greatest level of buyer demand and the most sales agreed across the year.

There are a few reasons for this surge in activity:

  • Buyers often begin their search early in the year with the aim of moving by summer.
  • Homes typically present better in lighter spring conditions.
  • Families planning school moves are often motivated to secure a property before the autumn term.

All of this combines to create a more active and competitive marketplace, which can benefit sellers who launch their property at the right time.

Timing can make a real difference. While homes sell throughout the year, the research suggests that bringing a property to market during the spring window can significantly improve the chances of attracting a buyer.

With March already underway, sellers who are considering a move in 2026 may want to act now to ensure they are well positioned during one of the most active periods in the property calendar.
