Penzance retained the Bradleys Vinter Cup last night at Camborne in one of the most remarkable finals of the 84 year history of the competition.
After being put into bat Penzance hit a mammoth, record final score of 249 for 3 in 20 overs.
Tommy Sturgess hit 65 and Dylan Blignaut 78 in an opening stand of 128, in just 10 overs. Greg Smith made 55 and Brad Wadlan 39 not out. In all the innings included 9 sixes and 29 fours.
Sturgess was named the Bill Bosanko Man of the Match after taking 4 for 10 as St Just replied with 107 for 9, to lose by 142 runs. Philip Nicholas top scored with 41.
Penzance will now play Werrington for the WT Edwards Cup at St Austell on Wednesday 18 July at 6pm.
Camborne Branch Manager, Nick Jewell, presented the trophy to the winning team captain and commented “It was a great game to watch and I’m pleased to be present this to the winning side. Well done to all the teams that took part but it looks like you have a tough side to beat in Penzance. Good luck for next year!”
