Shaldon Regatta 2026: Another Fantastic Regatta Comes to a Close

Another fantastic Shaldon Regatta came to a close on Bank Holiday Monday, marking the end of nine days filled with fun, friendly competition and community spirit.

The week got underway with the traditional Dawlish to Shaldon Row and continued with a packed programme of events both on and off the water. From sailing, rowing, paddleboarding, kayaking and swimming races to a fantastic selection of beach games, there was something for everyone to get involved in. The popular treasure hunt brought plenty of excitement as participants explored the village and river, while the Regatta ended in true Shaldon style with the hilarious Bank Holiday Monday pillow fight. The festivities were then rounded off with the official closing of the Regatta and the presentation of prizes.

Branch Manager Julie Carden said:

“We are delighted to have sponsored the Otter sailing dinghy again this year. It was fantastic to see her back out on the river and taking part in the Regatta. Our office really enjoys supporting our local community in as many ways as we can. It has been wonderful to see the village so busy, with both local residents and visitors coming together to enjoy the celebrations. The 2026 Shaldon Regatta was another fantastic celebration of everything that makes our village so special, and we are delighted to have played a small part in supporting it."

A Regatta Steeped in History

Shaldon Regatta has a fascinating history stretching back centuries. A rowing race between Dawlish and Shaldon was recorded as early as 1773, while the first Shaldon Regatta is recognised as taking place in 1817. Since then, the Regatta has evolved from a traditional aquatic event into the much-loved nine-day celebration enjoyed by the community and visitors today.

While the programme has grown over the years, the heart of the Regatta remains unchanged — bringing people together to enjoy the river, the village and a wonderful mix of sporting events, traditional activities and good old-fashioned fun.
