Britain’s happiest places to live has been revealed by Rightmove, with St Ives being ranked 9th out of 20 named towns/cities!
Tim Bannister, Rightmove’s property expert, notes a growing interest in areas outside cities with green spaces and properties for renovation. Over 26,000 individuals participated in this year's completion of the Happy at Home Index, expressing their sentiments about their surroundings through an evaluation of 13 key happiness factors.
The study stood out to recognise the sense of pride, belonging to a community is most likely to contribute to feeling happy in the area where you live. More so than having access to public transport, schools and job opportunities.
Which goes to show that trends emerging from this year is that those living in rural areas are more likely to be happy where they live rather than those living in busy cities or built-up areas. Especially those surrounded by national parks or rural beauty.
The results reported that 30% of residents saying they would be happier living in a different a different area. The group being younger around (18-34) currently living in urban or built-up areas were split between staying in the same region (46%) and moving to a completely new part of Great Britain (54%). However, interestingly of those living in a different region, the South West is the most popular choice.
Moving to a bigger home (28%), looking for a better value (27%), looking for a change of lifestyle (24%) and changes to personal circumstances (21%), downsizing (11%), reducing energy costs (10%) and taking advantage of remote working to live somewhere new (9%) were other factors for those planning a move.
