As the sun set on Camborne Cricket Club, St Just and Penzance played against each other in the final of the Vintner Cup that took place on Wednesday 6th July.
Unfortunately Penzance CC failed to adhere to rule 17.1.2 by playing an ineligible player who was ‘cup tied’ having played for another club in the competition this year. The unanimously agreed sanction was to disqualify Penzance CC from the competition and award the match to St Just, who will go forward to the W T Edwards Cup Final on 13th July at Truro cricket club.
The competition has reached its 81st tournament this year and it’s still as popular as ever! It began in 1934 when the Headmaster of Truro School, Mr HW Vinter donated a sliver trophy. The first final compromised of 30 over and after begin reduced to 26 overs in the second year and to 25 over in 1936, it became a 20 over competition in 1949, in which it’s still how it is played today.
Bradleys Estate Agents are proud sponsors of this long standing, traditional tournament and we look forward to what the 82nd year will bring!
