This Week Is the Busiest for People Moving House!

- Tue 26 Aug 2025

Whilst August is renowned for people jet setting off on holidays, and certainly for families enjoying time off together over the summer break, however it is now established that this week, and Friday 29th August in particular is the busiest day for people moving home.

A recent survey by the removal comparison site reallymoving.com found that over 22,000 moves are expected to be taking place on this date, making it the busiest of the year. This was analysed from over 700,000 quotations they provided.

It was also established that August has been the most popular month of the year to move for the last 13 years.

The main causes of moving day delays are issues with the transfer of funds by the conveyancer/ banking system on completion day (88%), keys not being released in time by the estate agent or seller (69%), delays in the property chain causing a knock-on effect (67%), the seller not moving out on time (41%) and the client not being fully packed up and ready to move (14%).

Darren Ellis, Bradleys Group Sales Director, commented “It is no surprise to hear that the latter part of August, and the month is the most popular for home movers. It does however, mean that the stress levels, volumes of transactions suggest there could be increased delays and issues. It is always advised to seek mid-week moves to avoid greater competition and often, these days can be cheaper as well as easier to find removals for.”
