Your First Home

A new Government scheme designed to help first-time buyers onto the property ladder

Buying your first home could be about to become a little easier.

The Government has announced Your First Home, a new scheme designed to help first-time buyers in England who can afford the ongoing costs of owning a home but may be struggling to save a large enough deposit.

The full details are due to be confirmed by the Government. In the meantime, customers can register their interest with Bradleys and we'll keep them informed as further information becomes available.

How could Your First Home help?

2.5% deposit

The scheme is expected to allow eligible first-time buyers to purchase a qualifying new-build home with a deposit from just 2.5%.

20% Government-backed equity loan

A Government-backed equity loan is expected to cover 20% of the purchase price, reducing the size of mortgage required.

New-build homes

Your First Home is expected to be available on qualifying new-build properties purchased from developers participating in the scheme.

Designed for first-time buyers

The scheme is being introduced specifically to help first-time buyers who may be able to afford home ownership but are finding it difficult to save a larger deposit.

How is the scheme expected to work?

Under the proposals announced by the Government, eligible first-time buyers could purchase a new-build home with a deposit of just 2.5%.

The scheme is expected to provide a Government-backed equity loan of 20% of the property's value, reducing the amount buyers need to borrow through their mortgage.

The equity loan is also expected to have an initial interest-free period.

Household income limits and local property price caps are expected to apply. The detailed eligibility requirements will be confirmed by the Government when the scheme is formally introduced.

What could this mean for you?

For many first-time buyers, raising a deposit can be one of the biggest barriers to owning a home.

By combining a smaller deposit with a Government-backed equity loan, Your First Home could provide another route onto the property ladder for buyers who might otherwise need considerably longer to save.

Bradleys has an extensive network of offices across the South West together with a specialist New Homes team. As further details of Your First Home are announced, we'll help prospective buyers understand the scheme and identify suitable opportunities as they become available.
