On Saturday 29th April, Trevithick Day was celebrated in Camborne whereby the streets of the town were closed and passing traffic was replaced with steam engines, stalls, choirs, and bands paying tribute to Richard Trevithick.
Richard Trevithick invented machines that transformed the future of mass transportation and Britain’s place in the forefront of the industrial revolution. He also helped transform Cornwall’s fortunes as an important cog in the globe’s mining industry. As Trevithick was born and lived on the edge of Camborne and Redruth in the heart of the country’s mining industry lands, it’s fitting that Camborne as a town pays tribute to the famous inventor.
Bradleys Estate Agents, Camborne held a stall on Trevithick Day to raise vital funds for the Cornwall Air Ambulance. The Bradleys stand ran two competitions, a colouring competition for children with the chance to win a family ticket to the cinema with snacks and a game of, guess how many keys are in the jar to give the adults the chance to win a spa voucher for St. Michaels in Falmouth.
Manager of Bradleys Camborne, Nick Jewell commented “Congratulations to both winners of the competitions we held on Trevithick Day, its fantastic to have been able to promote local businesses as well as raising an amazing £173.24 for the Cornwall Air Ambulance. Trevithick Day was a real success and fantastic to see the town bustling in remembrance of Richard Trevithick!”
