Man Up & Down Event

- Mon 20 Sep 2021

Bradleys Estate Agents are always proud of any member of our team taking part in events to raise funds for organisations close to their hearts. We are delighted that Nick Jewell, Bradleys Camborne Manager, is undertaking the challenge of running in a 20k (12.4 miles) race from Portreath beach to Perranporth beach, taking in some of North Cornwall’s most spectacular coastal paths, including the most brutal ascends and descends including Porthtowan, Chapel Porth and Blue Hills! The event is being hosted on Sunday 26th September by Purple Gecko Events in support of Man Down, a South West based organisation that offers support for men who are struggling with their mental health, offering them a local and safe forum for discussion and education throughout Cornwall.

The reason for Nick taking part in this tremendous challenge is one of his friends, Ross Jackson – Hicks founded ‘Man Down’ after struggling with his mental health and alcoholism. He has worked tirelessly to help reduce the numbers of male suicide in the UK which currently sits at 84 EVERY week! Unfortunately one of those statistics was an old friend of Nick’s, Sonny who took his life a few years ago. Again his family have kindly allowed Nick to run in his memory, helping to raise funds for ‘Man Down’ to try and stop any other family going through the heart wrenching trauma they have.

This isn’t the first time Nick has completed the Man Up & Down Event, last year he was just short of running it in 2hrs, so this year he would love to knock those dreaded 2 minutes off and get that sub 2 hour time! Nick is an ‘enthusiastic’ runner, running around 20-25 miles per week but nothing can really prepare for him for the mental exhaustion of running the Cornish Coastal Path as the terrain is so perilous with serious ramifications should you put a foot wrong! We asked Nick how his training is going; “ My recent training has been hit by niggly injuries, mainly age related, but I am going to give it all I have got!”

With every entry, £5 of the entry fee gets donated to the organisation, with this £800 was raised last year so naturally this year they want to up that figure. Please follow the link to support Nick by donating to the Man Up & Down Organisation, or even better enter yourself if you are up for the challenge!
