Have you spent recent months contemplating getting that bigger garden or being closer to the kids school, maybe you want to reduce the commute to work or buy a house with plenty of parking? Whatever the reason for change, now could be the best time to make it.
Following the government’s announcement, there will be a stamp duty holiday starting immediately (8th July) on all completed house purchases up to the purchase price of £500,000 until the 31st March 2021. For the majority of home movers, this will save thousands of pounds in stamp duty tax, which can bring your dream move that much closer to becoming a reality!
The removal of stamp duty will make buying a home more attractive for anyone perhaps thinking about it, or those that were planning on buying prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, and have since had their affordability reduced will now be able to revisit the situation and spur people on to buy.
Managing Director, Chris Baxter, commented on the news "We are delighted to see the government taking some very positive action in helping homebuyers. Coupled with low interest rates, the news on stamp duty will provide many homebuyers with a much needed helping hand. The housing market has a very positive impact on the economy as a whole and together with low interest rates, this could make a real difference to a lot of people. I would advise anyone planning on checking their affordability to get in contact with our team of Mortgage Advisors, who will help identify the best deal for you and provide you with your options."
The announcement was less of a surprise for those in the property industry as rumours gathered pace over recent days to suggest what may happen, although many were sceptical whether the government would take such a positive step to help homebuyers.
